Chapter 10: A Silent War

London, UK – The Underground Meeting

Vikram Mehta sat in a dimly lit apartment in East London, staring at the laptop screen. The files Evelyn Carter had given him were damning—proof that BioGenX had engineered the Crimson Strain. But it wasn’t just the virus itself; the documents outlined a controlled deployment strategy.

Across from him, Evelyn was pale, her fingers wrapped tightly around a mug of tea. “This project… it was never meant to go public,” she whispered. “BioGenX was working with a shadow group—government-backed but completely off the books.”

Vikram exhaled sharply. “And the virus was part of their plan?”

Evelyn hesitated, then nodded. “Yes. They wanted to engineer a pandemic to reshape global economies. Countries with weaker healthcare systems—like India—would suffer first. Meanwhile, the West would already have a controlled immunity response.”

Vikram clenched his fists. A bioweapon masked as a pandemic.

“Who else knows about this?” he asked.

Evelyn shook her head. “No one outside BioGenX—except maybe a few intelligence agencies.”

Vikram’s mind raced. The moment he published this story, he’d have a target on his back. But this wasn’t just a scandal—it was a crime against humanity.

A knock at the door interrupted his thoughts. Evelyn stiffened.

Vikram reached for the small knife in his pocket and motioned for her to stay behind him. Slowly, he opened the door—

A man in a black coat shoved his way inside.

“You need to leave. Now.”

Vikram recognized him instantly. Alex Harper. A former MI6 operative turned whistleblower.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Vikram demanded.

Harper closed the door behind him, locking it. “They know you’re in London,” he said, voice low. “You don’t have much time.”

The Pursuit Begins

Vikram barely had time to process Harper’s words before the unmistakable sound of footsteps on the stairs sent a chill down his spine.

“They’re here,” Evelyn whispered.

Harper moved fast. “Grab everything. We exit through the fire escape.”

Vikram stuffed the USB drive into his pocket and slung his bag over his shoulder. They pushed through the tiny window, dropping onto the metal staircase behind the building.

The moment their feet hit the pavement, a black SUV screeched to a stop near the alleyway.

“Run!” Harper barked.

Bullets cracked through the air as Vikram and Evelyn sprinted through the narrow backstreets. Harper led them through a maze of alleys, dodging trash bins and scaling a low brick wall.

They finally ducked into an abandoned train yard, panting.

Evelyn clutched Vikram’s arm. “They were going to kill us.”

Harper nodded grimly. “That was just a warning.”

Vikram steadied himself. “Then we hit them first.”

BioGenX Headquarters – London

It took another 24 hours to regroup. Harper made calls to his old intelligence contacts, while Vikram worked with Evelyn to prepare the final expose.

But they needed hard proof from BioGenX’s internal servers.

“This is a suicide mission,” Evelyn muttered as they approached the glass fortress of BioGenX’s headquarters.

Harper smirked. “Only if we get caught.”

Using a stolen security badge, they slipped into the building after hours. The hum of fluorescent lights and the faint whir of computers filled the air.

Vikram hacked into the mainframe while Evelyn kept watch. File after file loaded onto his drive—classified reports, emails, and even a memo from a UK government official approving Phase Two of the outbreak.

Then—

The sound of security alarms shattered the silence.

“They know we’re here!” Evelyn gasped.

Harper pulled out a small EMP device. “This’ll buy us thirty seconds.” He slammed it onto the main server. The entire building flickered into darkness.

They bolted.

Just as they reached the exit, armed guards stormed in. Too many to fight.

Harper turned to Vikram. “You get out. I’ll hold them off.”

Vikram’s stomach dropped. “No, we—”

“Go!” Harper shoved him toward the door.

Vikram and Evelyn barely made it to the street before a deafening gunshot echoed behind them.

Harper was gone.

But they had the proof. And now, the world would know.
